About the Business

Ian McBain created Tythorne Garden Design to make outstanding garden design accessible to everyone, no matter how large or small their outdoor space.

With an emphasis on the highest possible standards of customer service, we design beautiful and practical gardens for clients in Grantham, Stamford, Oakham and surrounding areas.

Ian has a creative background, having studied design at the Royal College of Art and lecturing in design at various universities. Realising his true passion lay in gardens and garden design, he then took a garden design degree at Nottingham Trent University.

Alongside the theory, Ian made sure that he gained some valuable practical experience, choosing to work both as a gardener for the Bishop of Southwell and also as a landscaper with a well-regarded local company.

Designing fabulous gardens since 2004 from his home near Grantham, Ian has built a well-deserved reputation for providing great design and excellent customer service.

Our Services

Tythorne Garden Design offers a complete garden design service. Your first consultation will always be free of charge* and without obligation, and our fixed-price design fees ensure that you’ll always remain in control when investing in a garden design from us.

Your design presentation plan: planning your new garden.

We start by listening to you. Understanding what you want to see, touch, hear and smell in your perfect garden will help us to produce a simple design brief. When you are happy with the brief, and are ready to commission our services, we’ll get started on your project and produce a first draft plan of your new design. Any changes can be easily incorporated at this stage, before we then complete a fully detailed presentation plan of your new garden.

Our great value design fees for our garden design service are based on the size of your garden:

£795: Gardens up to ¼ acre (approx. 1000m2).
£995: Gardens up to ½ acre (approx. 2000m2).
£1,195: Gardens up to 1 acre (approx. 4000m2).
POA: Gardens larger than 1 acre (larger than 4001m2).

Your planting plan: choosing your perfect planting.

Looking for help with the planting for your new garden? Not sure which plants will thrive in your soil and conditions? We can help by creating a comprehensive planting plan perfectly tailored to your personal requirements. To make things even easier, all of our planting plans are accompanied by a detailed guide to the plants we’ve suggested for you, including maintenance advice to help you keep them looking their best.

Once again, our design fees for planting plans are based on the size of your garden:

£395: Gardens up to ¼ acre (approx. 1000m2).
£495: Gardens up to ½ acre (approx. 2000m2).
£595: Gardens up to 1 acre (approx. 4000m2).
POA: Gardens larger than 1 acre (larger than 4001m2).

Your landscaping: building and planting your new garden.

We will be pleased to introduce you to our preferred landscaper who will be pleased to provide an independent no-obligation quotation for your landscaping project.
